10 Costliest Mistakes Ever Made in the History of the World - Rapid Info

Now, you are going to see the 10 Costliest mistakes ever made in the history of the world. So, let's begin:

1) Key that could have saved the Titanic:

The below image shows the key that could have saved the Titanic disaster. This may look like an ordinary key. Before the journey of the titanic ship, David Blair was removed from the ship crew and replaced by Charles Lightoller. Before the journey, David Blair forgot to give the keys of Binoculars to Charles. So, there are no binoculars for Charles to see and in 1992 the titanic ship was collided with an iceberg and drowned. In this accident, 1522 people died. So, a small key killed 1522 people.

2) When Yahoo refused to buy Google:

In 1994, two students developed a Yahoo search engine. There is no Google company by that time. By 1998 Yahoo is ruling the internet. In the same year, Sergey Brin and Larry Page developed a page ranking algorithm and named it Google. They both loved to study so they want to sell google and want to study with that money. They both went to Yahoo and Yahoo refused to buy Google for $1 million. After that people started using Google more as it is giving better search results. By 2020 the value of Google company is 300 billion dollars. But, Verizon company purchased yahoo for 4.8 billion dollars. If yahoo purchased google in 1998, now in the place of google we would have Google. In 2008 Microsoft company wanted to buy yahoo for 44 billion dollars but yahoo rejected it.

3) Wrong Decision:

With a small wrong decision, a person missed a chance of becoming a billionaire. Apple company was started by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak in 1976. They both are very young. Steve Jobs is 25 years and Steve Wozniak is 21 years old. So they thought that it would be good if we have a person older than them to advise them. So they joined Ronald Wayne as a partner who is 42 years age and gave him 10% company shares. Ronald Wayne is the person who designed the first logo of apple and who written the manual for the first Apple computer. In 1976 Apple company got its first contract to supply 100 computers to Bite shop company. Steve Jobs agreed to this contract but, Ronald Wayne because few incidents bite shop company not paid money after products delivery. He felt that if the company faces a loss by this agreement he will also get a money loss and he sold his 10% shares to Steve Jobs for 50,000 rupees and left the company. But now the 10% share value of Apple company is $100 billion. So, he lost to become a billionaire by just taking the wrong decision.

4) The Loss of Mars Climate Orbiter:

A satellite crashed because of a small units conversion which leads to a loss of 2000 crores. In December 1998, NASA launched a satellite to study the climate of Mars called 'Mars Climate Orbiter'. It reached near to Mars after 10 months i.e, in 1999 September. When it is 227 km away from Mars, NASA scientists thought it would be good if the satellite is within a 110 km radius. So, to make it NASA need to give a force to satellite thrusters. So, NASA gave the job of calculating that force to a company. Then the company calculated the force value through small software and given to NASA. Then NASA sent that force value to that satellite but, after receiving that value satellite crash-landed on Mars rather than entering into a 110 km radius. Because NASA need the value of force in Newtons but that company sent the force value in pounds. NASA thought that the force value they gave was in Newtons and sent that force value to the satellite with checking once more. NASA thought that the satellite will reach 110 km orbit but the satellite went to 57km orbit. As the gravity of mars pulls the objects down which are below 80 km the satellite crash-landed. So just because of units conversions, NASA lost 2000 crores.

5) The sale of Alaska:

Russia lost many natural resources by selling a big country for a very low cost. In the 17th century, Russia discovered Alaska. As it is discovered by Russia, for the next 126 years Russia owned Alaska. But, in 1867 Russia sold Alaska to America for just 50 crores. But after that gold and oil reserves was found in Alaska which worths many billion dollars. There is also a reason behind Russia to sold Alaska. That is there are many disputes between Russia with the UK. And war is going on between Russia and UK at that time and the countries around Russia are ruled by Alaska. So, it is very difficult for Russia to rule Alaska. Alaska is also mostly covered with ice with a little agricultural land. Russia thought of this land as useless land and if this was occupied by the UK, there will be no use for both. So, if they sold it for America they will make some money. So, Russia sold Alaska to America for only 50 crores. Even if Russia knew that there are oil reserves in Alaska before, there will be no use because in those days oil is only used for kerosene stoves.

6) The Lost Bitcoin Fortune:

This person depressed when bitcoin prices increased because in 2009 a person from the UK named James Howells mined 7500 bitcoins from his dell laptop. After he stopped mining and disassembled his laptop and he only took the hard drive in which 7500 bitcoins are there. But after few days he threw his hard drive in a dustbin by mistake. But after the increase of bitcoin prices, he searched for his hard drive but he realised that he threw it in a dustbin. Now, the value of 1 bitcoin is 2,560,196 rupees. So at the present value, he lost nearly 19,201,470,000 rupees.

7) The Collapsed Section of a Bridge:

In 1994 Korea a bridge which was constructed under the river Hance collapsed and 32 people died in this accident. This bridge was designed in such a way so that it can only carry 36 tonnes of vehicles only. But one day 48 tonnes of vehicles travelled in that bridge and some part of the bridge collapsed and fell in the river. After this incident government reconstructed the entire bridge and opened the new bridge in 1997.

So because of a small typing error Mizuho company gave $225 Million as loss compensation for J: COM company. Many mistakes took place in the history of the stock market but this the first time in which a large amount of money was lost.

Because of this small mistake, she lost 1000 crores.

10) Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster:

On 2003 February 1, 7 astronauts including Kalpana Chawla are to returning from space in the Space shuttle Columbia after 16 days of research in space. But that space shuttle exploded in the air. So, the 7 astronauts died. Actually, when their rocket launched into space, foam insulation near the fuel tank collided with the rocket wing. But they not faced any problem when they are travelling in the air. But when they are returning as there is more friction the air entered into the shuttle and it exploded. And all the parts of that shuttle fell at Texas city and it took 10 days for NASA to collect all of them. Even though they have gathered only 40% of the shuttle parts. Actually, NASA knew that the wing is damaged while they are travelling in the air but they are not told this news for the astronauts as they wanted the astronauts to die peacefully. It is highly impossible to repair that shuttle in space. NASA also neglected the shuttle as it was used many times.
