Why Pluto is no longer a planet?
Pluto was discovered by Clyde Tombaugh in 1930. But in 2006 The International Astronomical Union (IAU) removed Pluto from the planets list and gave a new definition for the word planet.
According to the new definition :
1. It needs to be in orbit around the sun.
2. It needs to have enough gravity to pull itself into a spherical shape.
3. It needs to have ''cleared the neighbourhood'' of its orbit. (like asteroids)
Pluto satisfies the first two points but it doesn't satisfy the 3rd point, so they removed Pluto from the planets list and named it a ''dwarf planet''.There are other 4 dwarf planets in our solar system.
Also pluto orbit is different when compared to the orbits of other planets because plutos orbit is 17 degrees slant and sometimes it also enters into Neptune's orbit.
These are all the reasons for the removal of Pluto from the planets list solar system.
Hope you learned something new.
